Students who rely on the BCC Shuttle can now breathe a sigh of relief, the shuttle will be running its normal hours on Monday 13, 2014.

The shuttle service was originally going to be suspended in Bergen County, due to the fact that Columbus Day is a federal holiday. Bergen County Department of Human Services Communications Coordinator Rocco Mazza said, via email, “The county’s Division of Community Transportation and the college administration came to agree on the calendar days that the shuttle would not be available… based on the county’s public employee contract for negotiated holidays off.”

To bring the drivers and Community Transportation staff in on Columbus Day to work would be “quite costly and can be a challenge”, Mazza said.

All hope was not lost though, as Mazz continued by saying, “…with the understanding that some of the BCC students may not be aware of the previously posted schedule, the County has gone to great lengths… to arrange for shuttle service on this particular Columbus Day holiday Monday, October 13, 2014.”

However, Mazza said, “We expect this to be a one-time exception to our previously arranged schedule with exception that the college will ensure all students are made aware of the shuttle schedule.”
