The Bergen Community College wrestling team competed in the NJCAA Championship at Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Anthony Romero qualified at 133 pounds during the National Championship and went 1-2. The team is looking solid this year with a variety of competitions already finished that took place in many locations.

The team currently has six athletes on the roster. This is a small, but tightly knit group of players who consider each other family.

Wrestling coach Chris Disanto believes the athletes are driven with the will to succeed.

Bergen has a long tradition of wrestling. The program has been around for over 25 years. Each year has to ups and downs pertaining to the roster. We are a community school, so kids aren’t here to specifically wrestle. The kids that do wrestle have been committed to the sport during their years at Bergen and after they graduated from Bergen. We as coaches do our best to make practices fun as well as have a serious attitude during the season,” said Disanto.

Coach DiSanto stresses the importance of conditioning and technique as the most important aspects of the team. The team does not have a special diet, but are encouraged to eat healthy foods and have daily workouts outside of training.
